Creating Custom Categories

Do you have merchandise on your site that you want to group together? Do you want to highlight the school mascot, sports merchandise, or even a special campus event? Well you can, by creating a Custom Category.

All it takes is a few steps

1) From the Merchandise Menu select Catalog Management.

2) From the Catalog Management screen, click on the New button on the right hand side of the screen.

3) There are 3 key fields on the following screen. Category Code: Enter your store number + the category name. (ex. 0001MascotItems). This value will only be used in Accelerator Name: This is the name of the category as it will appear to customers on the site. Display to Customers: When building a new category, ensure that this box is checked.

4) When these 3 fields are completed, click on Next in the upper right to continue to the second part of the process.

5) This screen presents you with the Catalog tree that you had previously seen. Except this time you are assigning a location for your new category. Click on the location where you want it to be presented (expanding the tree by clicking the + signs as necessary). When you have settled on a location, click Finish.

Please note, new categories should only be assigned within the Apparel and Gifts section.

You are now done! At the Catalog Management screen, if you expand the Category tree, you will see that your new category is now listed. Even though the category is listed, it will not show up to customers until you add visible merchandise to it and the nightly category refresh has taken place.
